From our archive we have selected a few programmes about what you get involved in when you live abroad. This programme was made in 2010 when the Saumur choir celebrated its 30th anniversary! If you have a hobby that brings you into contact with your community abroad please let us know and we'll make a programme with you. You can contact us at: expatsradio@hotmail.com
The Chorale Contrepoint de Saumur under the leadership of Christian Foulonneau, was celebrating 30 years of singing by releasing a CD and performing in some spectacular venues. http://www.contrepoint-saumur.com
Expatsradio.com spoke to Helen Davey about her expat role in this choir and how she and her husband arrived in the Loire.
Helen tells us that she is happy in this area and enjoys the challenges of a new life, language and culture. The choir allows her contact with younger people which brings benefits to both groups. Helen also states that her French has improved as a direct result of participation in this very special community.
The CD we are reviewing was recorded 2009 and was of Karl Jenkins' Requiem. The orchestra was from Orchestre du Lycee Georges Enesco de Bucharest and represents one of the collaborations between the choir and other organisations.
This collaboration resulted in celebrations involving other choirs from Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy and the Pays Basque. Those took place from 1-3 May culminating in a concert given by the combined choirs of about 250 singers at Fontevraud Abbey on the 3rd May.
The website for the choir is at: http://www.contrepoint-saumur.com
